Music for cor anglais and piano

Drake Gritton, principal cor anglais Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

Peter Gritton, Piano

Tea and cake served from 3.15pm

Concert 4pm - 5pm

Enjoy the exquisite sound of one of the most individual instruments of the orchestra, the cor anglais - perhaps best described as the big brother of the oboe section. Up-and-coming talent Drake Gritton will give a recital accompanied by his father, local Ropley musician Peter Gritton, ahead of his sell-out recital in the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room later this year.

Drake studied both the oboe and the deeper-sounding cor anglais at the Royal Academy of Music. He began to realise that he wished to specialise in cor anglais for a career and, before he had even graduated, was appointed as Principal Cor Anglais of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, a position which he still holds. He regularly appears with many leading orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and London Symphony Orchestra. This year he performed the famous “Hovis advert” solo from Dvorak’s New World Symphony in the Proms with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as playing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra three times, including the Last Night of the Proms.

We are delighted to welcome him to St Peter’s with a programme of beautiful music for cor anglais and piano, accompanied by his father, musician, composer and Ropley resident, Peter Gritton:

Sonata for Cor Anglais and Piano - Hindemith

Amalia - Pasculli

Reflets dans l’eau - Debussy

Au Loin - Koechlin

Pastorale - Elliot Carter
